Simple Seasoned | Fried Rice | Chumma Varutha Sadham

When I think about this recipe, I am cherishing my good old memories. My mom usually wakes at 4AM and I start to school at 5.30AM from home, I pack both my breakfast and lunch. She prepares this delicious simple rice (Varutha sadam) in jiffy, with high demand from my friends indeed :-). When I am tired in making varieties, even I pack this rice for my husband's lunch box. Chumma varutha sadam/variety rice doesn’t have any special masala

Authentic Tamarind Rice from Leftover Rice | Puli Sadam | Palaiya Sadham Varuval

Tamarind rice from left over rice is a traditional one. My grandma usually says this pulisadam is the ancestor of Instant Puliyodarai…In olden days they used Bullock cart for transportation, still alive in few places. When marriage or other function comes they usually start a day or 2 days before to reach the destination and for food they pack this rice. This is not an instant mixing of hot rice and

How to make Asafoetida Powder at home | Stepwise Pictures

Daily I prepare something with dhal/lentils/dried beans/legumes which are rich in protein/fiber also produces gas. Usually I add a pinch of hing/asafoetida or garlic to neutralize the gas n for easy
digestion. Before coming here I packed few packets of compound hing, first time I don’t know how to powder the compound hing/katti perungayam. I called my Mom n she suggested to dry in sunlight or else heat in in kadai. As we don’t get proper sunlight, I heated and struggled a lot to break it.

Mini Ghevar Dessert | Traditional Rajastani Ghewar with Rabdi

Coming to this month Divya's South vs North Indian challenge the South Indian teams are challenged with this mini ghevar/ghewar by Manjula Bharath of Desi Fiesta. Thks for challenging us with this wonderful recipe...Actually I thought of posting this Rajasthani traditional dessert on or before pongal which they make it especially for Sankranthi, but I couldn't. Ghevar is nothing but a crisp flat disc shaped snack made from thin batter of all purpose flour/maida, cooked/deep fried in hot oil/ghee in low flame till it attains nice crisp golden color. This plain ghevar is served with sugar syrup or Rabdi, I opted for rabdi. My daughter liked the plain ghevar, where I specially soaked it in rabdi for my son, who enjoyed it a lot. I invited my hus with this hot ghevar when he returned from office, he was curious to know abt htis recipe. I

Soft Athirasam Recipe Using Jaggery | Adhirasam and Crisp Ariselu Versions

Wish you all a very HAPPY n PROSPEROUS PONGAL/SANKRANTHI!!! Pongal an authentic Tamil festival is nearing n I want to share few abt it. After the end of harvest period/season farmers thank god (SUN) with the cultivated products. I am proud of being that family n my Appa (Dad) is a very good farmer cum retired central govt employee, now a full time farmer :-). They usually harvest paddy yearly 3times, even we prepare unpolished boiled rice from own rice mill. Rice plays main role, with the harvested rice they make plain pongal/white pongal in vengala panai. Very auspious n never mingle sweet/spice while cooking. Actually use the washed rice for cooking this white/venn pongal, so it has to foam n fall on the right side which is another auspicious belief. They thank god with other harvested items like coconut/banana/sugarcane,manjal kothu/fresh turmeric bunch/country vegetables n harvesting equipments. When I go there

Ancient Thinai Urundai | Foxtail Millet Honey Balls | தேனும் திணை மாவும்

It has been ages I tasted Thinai/Foxtail millet ladoo. Recently I got this millet in Korean super market n from that day calling my grandma n Aunty to know abt this thinai maavu/ladoo recipe. My grandma told that she had own cultivated sample millets n 2yrs back she used it during my cousins marriage. Yup this is a traditional recipe we make it particularly during any girls related functions like Puberty (Age Attending)/Marriage/Seemantham (Baby Shower) etc. Actually I forget how it looks with husk, so I googled n found the picture here. Even amma/grandma everyone describing it with husk, they soak the husked millet for few hours then using stone pestle (Ulaikai/Ural) remove the husk. But I explained n showed the fine processed millet in skype, then what they suggested is today's recipe :-) This foxtail millet ladoos are great neivedhyam for Lord Muruga with honey even I prepared this ladoos with pure honey.

Chola Paniyaram (சோள குழி பனியாரம்) | Sorghum or Jowar or Sola Kuzhi Paniyaram

Millet is one of the best-kept secrets of our ancestors. During my childhood I saw many millet varieties cultivated in our land n now only yellow corn/makka cholam they are hardly cultivating. Millets are rich in protein, as well as rich in minerals like calcium, iron, potassium, magnesium and zinc. These millets are good for diabetes n gluten free. We the whole family love any type of millet combined with usual idli batter, I often make these type of tiffins and will come up with more in future. A few already posted healthy millet recipes,
