Brown Rice Oats Khara Pongal | Venn Pongal | Special Post for Diabetes Awareness

Today Nov 1th is world diabetic day, we group of bloggers decided to make n post a healthy diabetic friendly recipe on this day and I am glad to share few info for this social awareness. There is no history of diabetics from my side but heard FIL had diabetics and so H is very conscious. My H prefers only jaggery based sweets and he limits with half or one…As he is very rare in taking white/regular rice (for kids sake I make white rice n for H I make brown rice separately). But when comes to pongal kids also enjoy brown rice when it is mashed well, so usually I make khara pongal with Brown rice and Oats combo for early dinner. As Swathi asked me to make a special post for diabetic awareness I opted this recipe.

Potato Podimas | Urulaikilangu Poriyal | Potato Stir Fry

Whenever we (me n brother) get back from college hostel or work to native (happen monthly once that time), My mom make this potato podimas, uppu paruppu and rice and wait for us. Now recently when I went with my kids for 3 months vacation we reached almost 12 midnight and we in advance asked her not to prepare dinner for us...We had in on ur way, though she prepared the same classic combo n was waiting for us without taking her food, I no need to elaborate more, how this poriyal is attached with our family J . This is such an exotic combination with hot rice, paruppu/dal and ghee…Also this stir fry can be used as filling/stuff in veg khara buns and masal dosa. On lazy cooking days this poriyal and pepper rasam is more than enough to finish a complete meal :-)

Ingredients
Potato - 2 Numbers (Large)
Onion - 1 Large Size
Green Chili - 2 Numbers

Roasted Baby Potato Biryani with Homemade Ground Paste

Here comes a delicious one pot meal with masala roasted baby potatoes and onion coriander leaves paste. I used brown rice for making this biriyani and you can choose the rice as per your wish. Serve with classic onion raita or veg kurma. Also I used oil throughout the process, you can add butter or ghee to enhance the taste. Let’s move on to the detailed post…

For Marinating
Soak the baby potatoes in water for 15 minutes, clean well before marinade, also prick with fork all around the potatoes.

Masala Phulka with Dal Fry | Soft Chapathi with simple dhal


Today I am here with classic Gujarati recipe, hot fulka/pulkas and simple dal fry which make healthy and complete/full filled dinner. Instead of masala phulka you can opt for plain version. And this dal is something similar to South Indian Uppu Paruppu with slight variations. So you can try that if you like to have tomato less version.

Ingredients for Phulka/Masala Chapathi
Whole Wheat Flour/Atta - 2 n 1/2 Cups
Red Chili Powder - 1-2tsp (Or Green Chilies - 2-3 Numbers)
Ajwain/Omam - 3/4tsp

Carrot Beans Stir Fry | Masala Free Poriyal with Green Chili Paste


I have listed this stir fry/poriyal as one among the South Indian/Kongu Special Thali. For any family get together either this carrot/beans poriyal or cabbage is predominant in south indian lunch menus. I usually make poriyal with my mom’s sambar podi also sometimes with a hint of garam masala but this version doesn’t need any masala powders, only chili paste is required and tastes unique too.

Ingredients
Chopped Carrot and Beans - 2 Cups
Small Green Chilis - 3-5 Numbers (Replace with Bell Pepper/Capsicum)

Paruppu Keerai | Moong Dhal with Verdolaga | Spinach Dhal Recipe

Recently i found this spinach/verdolaga in Indian grocery store (Pic 1 in stepwise pictures below). First time i got (bit expensive when compared to other leaves) and searched for its tamil name in google.
