Cuisine: Indian
Servings: 6
Author: Sangeetha Priya
Ingredients
  • Kollu/Horse Gram - 1 Cup
  • Green Gram/Moong Bean - 1/4 Cup Optional
Instructions
  1. Wash the horse gram and green gram.
  2. Kollu sometimes has stone so remove those and soak them separately for 8 hours at least or overnight.
  3. Drain the excess water; here i placed the soaked grams over the sieve (Pic 1), also I placed it over a glass bowl to drain water completely (Pic 1).
  4. Once drained well, pat dry in a cotton cloth for 15 minutes at least (Pic 2).
  5. Mix both grams or either one and place in the same sieve (we say jalladai in tamil) over a glass bowl (refer video) or tie in a light wet cloth by piercing some hole all over it or muslin cloth.
  6. Leave it as it is in a dark warm room for 6- 8 hours, after 6 hours you can see sprouts as shown in picture 3.
  7. On and off you can lightly wet the cloth, depends on the temperature the sprouts grow, once the cloth dried out completely just sprinkle some water.
  8. You can increase the timing like 10 hours to get lengthy sprouts (Pic 4).
  9. Once done use it immediate or refrigerate for 1-2 days in Ziploc bag, for longer use you have to freeze it.
