Ellu podi til chutney powder aka sesame seeds gun powder is a must in our home and during childhood days if we don’t like the curry mom made just this podi mixed with ghee and rice was enough to fill our tummy. So growing up, now I make this podi among few chutney powders for my Hubby when I am out for vacations. I have mentioned red chilis for a moderate spiciness please feel free to increase it.
Ingredients for Ellu podi til chutney powder
White Sesame seeds – 1 Cup
Cumin Seeds – 2 tsp
Pepper Corns – 1 tsp
Red Chili – 2 Numbers (increase the quantity for more spiciness)
Curry Leaves – Few
Salt – As Required
How to make Ellu Podi til chutney powder
Dry roast the sesame seeds with salt till light golden brown.
Transfer it in to another plate and allow to cool.
In the same pan dry roast all the other ingredients till nice aroma arrives.
Blend all together to coarse/fine powder.
While blending to fine powder sesame seeds leaves oil it doesn’t matter, just stop at this point.
Best to go with rice/idli/dosa.
In the same way you can make peanut podi.
I have served it with mixie idlis and spicy peanut chutney.
